The simplest installation

Woodloc® 5S features a special locking tongue which is made from an eco-friendly composite material from residual wood products. Woodloc® 5S allows floors to be installed even more quickly and providing a joint that is stronger than its predecessor. The new joint also allows a 75% larger area to be installed without an expansion joint.

Another advantage and improvement is that the boards are not locked until the next row is laid, thereby allowing you to remove a plank from a row without having to unlock the entire row. The unlocking method has also been simplified by means of a new locking tool. It is easy to lock the last row even if you need to saw it down to narrow it. With Woodloc® 5S, the boards end up in the perfect position after being laid. The end result: another durable, extremely strong, top-quality wood floor from Kährs.

Kährs quality: tried and tested

Woodloc® 5S has been tested in a climate chamber showing no changes of shape with variations in ambient humidity or indoor climate.

All Kährs floors produced in our factory in Nybro, Sweden, will have the new Woodloc® 5S joint.

Installing Kährs flooring

Installing a Kährs floor is easy. The floorboards are connected mechanically using practically invisible joints. Kährs flooring can be installed using a floating installation. This means that the floor is not glued to the subfloor; it is left “floating” above it. Kährs Woodloc® 5S flooring can also be glued.

Please read the complete installation instructions, available here, prior to installation.

Preparation – wood is a “living” material

Wood is what is known as a hygroscopic material, which means that it adapts to the ambient humidity and contracts or expands according to variations in the indoor climate - this is why it is important to have an expansion joint between the floor and the wall and other fixed objects. To ensure that the floor does not absorb moisture before installation it is important not to open the packaging until it is time to start laying the floor.

To prevent damage to the floor it is important to ensure that the relative humidity during and after installation the floor remains between 30% and 60%. The room temperature and material temperature must be within 15° of normal operating temperature. Prefinished flooring has to be laid after all other work has been completed, e.g. when painting and tiling are finished and the relative humidity – RH – on site is correct.

Important things to bear in mind

When you choose a wood floor from Kährs you have to remember that you are choosing something created by nature. At Kährs, we use photos and floor samples to help us show the products as best we can. Be aware that the appearance of the boards may vary from what is shown on the photos or samples, and that this is no reason for complain. If the floor packages you purchased include a board you do not like, you may choose not use it, use it as a starting or ending board, or use in an unseen place such as a closet. It is up to the installer or purchaser to visually inspect material as it is installed.

When boards are laid, regardless of whether it is you or a contractor, you will be deemed to have accepted them in your capacity as the purchaser.

  • Floor installation checklist

  • • Soft, elastic subfloors must be adjusted.

  • • Make sure that the correct moisture barrier is used.

  • • Put aside any damaged or faulty boards.
